Given that the Macedon Ranges is renowned for its food and wine, it is appropriate that the idea for the Macedon Ranges Dressage Club was first touted over a lunch at the Mountain Inn at Mt Macedon with a group of interested people.

The idea first came from Berni Saunders of Cyberhorse and Olympian Mary Hanna, then living at Statene Park at Macedon. The club was then officially formed and incorporated in 1995 after several public meetings. Other founding members included Linda Goller-Moulds, Malcolm Park, Heather Gee, Beth Whelan, Karan and Karah Grieve, Fiona Cooper, Sharon and Charlie Bugeja and Lee Howells and Ric Howells

Linda's husband, Andrew Moulds, was on the steering committee and he drafted the original constitution.

Since then the club has gone from strength to strength, always retaining its focus on dressage and providing the best possible instructors and opportunities to its members.

Affiliated with both the HRCAV and Equestrian Australia, MRDC holds two competitions a year; an EA competition at WPNEC and a HRCAV competition later in the year in the local area.  Both competitions serve as major fundraisers for the club allowing rally lessons to be subsidized by the club throughout the year. This enables members to be able to ride under instructors of a calibre they may not otherwise be able to experience.

It is this commitment to the furtherance of dressage, along with a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment, which is the foundation of the MRDC.
